I love my morning walk. Every day, without fail, I HAVE to walk my high energy Collie dog, Pippi. When I’m still in my pajamas and sipping my hot tea, it can be hard to get out the door….but as soon as I’m on the trails, I am so so happy to be out. There is nothing like starting the day by walking for an hour through the woods, by the river, over the creek. Some days it’s a silent walk, turning thoughts over in my head. Other days, I’m running and throwing sticks for Pip, or chatting with fellow morning dog walkers. No matter what kind of walk it is, it’s the best thing I can do for my body and my mind. Even those frigid days, when I’m bundled in every piece of clothing I own, multi-layer socks and my favorite insulated muck boots, and I walk slowly with a hot, steaming cup of tea with me, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I find that an hour is the sweet spot. Anything less, and I feel like I haven’t moved enough and Pippi looks at me like I’m crazy for heading back so soon. More than an hour, I save for the weekend, when I don’t have work to do. But an hour every weekday morning starts my day off just right.
